Presented by Elena Trejo, this facility was the degree project for Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez.

A stroll through the city – desert in search of waste accumulation and stagnation remnants of precipitation, Elena invites us to reflect on our environment. The water, the reflection and the city come together in this interesting proposal that takes us into ourselves and yet on the other, a fundamental act in times where new subjectivities are constructed. Step gives us the opportunity to see in the midst of our turbid condition.

Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Sotoa Gallery art by Annabel Livermore, the exhibition consisted of watercolor paintings 42’X 4′ panels.

Annabel Livermore is never seen except on canvas, she is the alter ego of sculpture artist James Magee.The artist has lived and worked in El Paso, TX since 1981.

3rd Annual Art Auction

On November 2, 2013, Amor por Juarez hosted its 3rd annual auction to raise funds for the operation of its various programs. More than 70 pieces of various disciplines such as painting, photography, sculpture and printmaking by artists with relations to the artistic and cultural scene Juarez-El Paso were auctioned. Among participating artists are: Sebastián, Ricardo Chavarria, Murakami, Gaspar Enríquez, Fabián Uribe Lozano, Joel Salcido, Rodolfo Calba, Marco Ivan Sagastegui, Gabriel Díaz, Humberto Ramírez Lara, Laura Turón, Nabil González, Alejandro Cartajena, Kristin Brice, Gabriel Pérez, Ray Parish, Ignacio Mendoza, Persia Campbell, Christian Nassri, Luly Sosa, Peter Svarzbein, Susy Davidoff, Luis Pegut among others.

Fourth Annual Art Auction

On December 4th 2014, Amor por Juarez hosted its 4th annual auction to raise funds for the operation of its various programs. More than 70 pieces of various disciplines such as painting, photography, sculpture and printmaking by artists with relations to the artistic and cultural scene Juarez-El Paso were auctioned. Among participating artists are: Jesus “Cimi” Alvarado, Kim Bauer, Therese Bauer, Margarita Cabrera, Gloria Castillo, Tomas Contreras, Arturo Damasco, Francisco Delgado, Gabriel Diaz, Los Dos, Gaspar Enriquez, Stefan Falke, Luz Galvan, Staphany Garnica, Raul Gonzalez the Third, Guillermo Guiraga, Aideé Lara, Jason Lucero, Sarah Mays, Ignacio Mendoza, Christian Nassri, Briseida Ochoa, Paola Rascon, Appolonia Roldan, Horey Silva, Sebastian, Harry Sanchez Jr., Marco Sanchez, Luly Sosa, Peter Svarzbein, Montse Trejo-King, Laura Turon, Brian Wancho, Carla Zabalegui, among others.

In addition, Hope Riot performed live during the event. Hope Riot is an experimental vocal project born and bred in El Paso, Texas. A blend of hypnotic vocals and heavy bass lines, she takes her inspiration from the local desert landscape and deep culture of our hometown. She has previously worked with producers such as Milo Froideval (Julieta Venegas, Ely Guerra, Molotov), Dave Sitek (of TV on the Radio), and most recently, indie rock legend David Garza. She has just begun recording a full-length LP at Sonic Ranch in our very own Tornillo, Texas; not only is it the highest quality facility in our region, but also the world’s biggest residential recording studio. With your help we can help get this young artist’s music out to a national market.

Last Thursdays: MakeShift

MakeShift is a series of ongoing Public Art Installations by collaborative artists Los Dos, where characters based on everyday people are painted and pasted on walls throughout the city landscape, activating creative placemaking. The characters are inspired by “Grafica Popular” and are presented in a larger than life format, interacting and overcoming their surroundings. MAKE SHIFT is a proposal to open the exhibition space and also connect popular culture and the world of fine art in a new way.

The unveiling of the project was held at The Station Urban Offices August 27th, 6 pm – 10 pm during the Last Thursdays Downtown Art Walk, and included photography of each of the murals and a series of mixed media illustrations documenting the art process as well as the people of the El Paso/ Juarez region.

The exhibit will be at the Station Urban Offices (500 W Overland Ave #250) from August 27 – September 18, and will then be shown in Ciudad Juárez, MX at the Juarez Contemporary Gallery ( Calle 20 de Noviembre 4305, Colonia El Colegio) October 1 – December 20 with addition works and installations. At the end of the exhibitions, the photographs of the work will be donated to public institutions.

Biography

Also known as Equinya online, she is a varied artist who uses mixed media, traditional and digital to create images both representational and abstract alike. As a result of her own experiences with mental illness and instability, she has chosen to use art to speak about the stigma that surrounds psychological disorders. The goal of her artwork is to engage the viewer with an image lures them in, disarms them and gives them the opportunity to contemplate the experiences of another person.

Biography

Contreras lives and works in Cd. Juárez .Currently he is working as a teacher for UACJ, in the areas of Painting Theory and Theory of body image. He works as an independent producer for art projects with educational character and social intervention, museographer and set designer.

His work seeks to raise an expressive character, which is essentially primitive, basic and poetic; so that his work exists between graphics, painting, photography and sculpture.

Biography

Currently she is a full-time Lecturer Drawing Program for the department of Art at University of Texas at El Paso.
Therese’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in venues such as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Fort Collins Lincoln Center, the El Paso Museum of Art, the Albuquerque Museum of Art, and the Jiangsu Academy of Chinese Painting in Nanjing, China. Her works are in public and private collections, and she recently received a Purchase Award for a drawing exhibited at the 34th Bradley International Print and Drawing Exhibition, Bradley University Galleries, Peoria, Illinois.

Stefan Falke

Biography

Stefan Falke was born and raised in Paderborn, Germany. After abandoning his civil engineer studies he worked as a photographer’s assistant in Munich and later as a silk screen printer in Hamburg. He moved to New York in 1985.
His work has been exhibited at the international photo journalism festival Visa Pour L’Image in 2004 in Perpignan/France and published as a book in New York the same year. Falke became a member of the prestigious German photo agency “laif / agentur fuer photos und reportagen” in 1999.
For his current long term project La Frontera he traveled 2000 miles along the Mexican/US border and has photographed 180 artists to show the vibrant cultural side of a region which is portrayed by the international media with the sole focus on violent crime. Stefan Falke now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
