Module 1: Critical Portfolio Development and Artist

Statement Articulation

This session provides a structured review of the artist’s current body of work, focusing on coherence, sequencing, and clarity of visual language. Artists will also refine their written statement, ensuring alignment between conceptual intent and communication.


Key components include:

  • Identification of visual and thematic strengths
  • Editing and organizing a professional portfolio
  • Writing and revising an artist statement for institutional use
  • Understanding the function of artist narratives in applications, exhibitions, and funding proposals

Module 2: Material Strategies

and Longevity in Artistic

Production

This session offers practical guidance on how materials and production choices affect the long-term preservation, presentation, and value of artistic work.


Topics addressed include:

  • Material selection and conservation-minded practices across media
  • Strategies for ensuring the structural integrity of artworks
  • Archival documentation and storage basics
  • Framing, mounting, and display considerations for professional settings

Module 3: Navigating Institutional Frameworks and Financial Tools

for Artists

This session introduces the artist to the professional structures of the cultural field and the economic tools that support sustainability.


Key topics include:

  • Overview of institutional relationships: galleries, museums, residencies, and nonprofit programs
  • Introduction to financial planning for artists: pricing, budgeting, and project tracking
  • Basic understanding of contracts, invoices, and artist rights
  • Strategies for identifying and applying to funding opportunities

Module 4:Exhibition Planning and Models of Public Presentation

The final session focuses on the planning and execution of solo and group exhibitions, with an emphasis on strategy, logistics, and long-term goals.


The session includes:

  • Differences between curatorial, independent, and institutional exhibition formats
  • Planning timelines, production checklists, and resource mapping
  • Writing basic exhibition proposals
  • Reflecting on public engagement and the role of visibility in an artistic career

This paid program supports the sustainability of our broader mission. Revenue from this initiative directly funds free and low-cost mentorship and cultural programming for Mexican and Latinx artists in the U.S.–Mexico border region—particularly those who face structural barriers to access and professional development. Our goal is to build a more equitable cultural landscape by centering artists whose voices have historically been excluded from institutional support.
